A Quick Thought on Birthday's and a New Year
I got an email from a cousin of mine earlier this week, which spurred this current train of thought...
Why is it that people, as they get older, want less and less to celebrate their birthdays? I am only 28, so I haven't felt the pressure of 30 and all that it implies for a woman in my social standing... I have good friends who are turning 35 this year, and my mother who loves to celebrate others birthdays, but hates to imagine herself getting older. I get that there is a certain amount of social pressure to have accomplished a set of imaginary goals by a certain age, and maybe you don't physically like getting older, things fall, gravity is as certain as death and taxes. But consider the alternative... Not having a birthday, not celebrating all that you have accomplished so far in your life, not hearing from people you love and even people you didn't know loved you, how great you are. I chose to celebrate, and I encourage you to do the same this year! We are lucky to be alive and well enough to celebrate!
